In August of this year, I’m embarking on mission to go back to my roots in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, to provide free basketball camp clinics for the youth (boys and girls) in the community. That community was pivotal to my development as a man, and I would like to go back and inspire the youth and be of service to them through the sport that I love, basketball.

I believe that sports have the power to change the world, and I have experienced this in my life. I will coach and train the local youth with the help of Don Bosco Upanga Youth Centre (non-profit organization). The youth are the future and I want to give hope to the youth in Tanzania and show them that they too can succeed in life, no matter the circumstances. Basketball will be the vehicle of empowerment for the youth, and through the sport they too can learn important life skills such as respect, leadership, communication, teamwork, and confidence.

Upon completion of the free basketball clinics, I will leave an impact by building a basketball court in the community. The court will give an opportunity for youth to gather and play and be inspired.

My vision is for one day to build a cutting-edge sports, wellness and training facility for youth in Tanzania, and this summer will be the first step of fulfilling this goal.
