Support the future of forestry

About this faculty

UBC Faculty of Forestry is Canada's largest forestry school and a global leader in education & research for conservation, forest products & natural resources.

The Faculty of Forestry is a dynamic place where students, researchers, and the forest community can transfer knowledge and share ideas to meet tomorrow’s challenges. We value lifelong connections with our students and alumni, and we are constantly working on new ventures and innovative projects that range from conservation through to wood products processing that supplement existing programs and improve the forests for the people of British Columbia, Canada and beyond.

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the world’s forests. By supplying wood, mitigating climate change, maintaining biodiversity and contributing to the livelihoods of over two billion people, forests play a critical role in the world’s economies and ecosystems.

Within the Faculty of Forestry, we undertake critical research, participate in community outreach, and educate graduates and undergraduates to meet this challenge. As a truly interdisciplinary Faculty, we want to be the nexus for ideas about forests and their goods and services; a place where ideas are turned into actions that benefit forests, the people who depend on forests, and all of humanity.

The Centre for Wildfire Coexistence (CWC) at UBC Forestry is responding to urgent wildfire management need by advancing research, collaboration and innovation in the areas of forest management and eco-cultural restoration. Established in fall 2023 thanks to a transformative gift from the Koerner family, the CWC’s data-led and proactive approach aims to inform wildfire management strategies and set in motion the co-development of solutions with and for communities at risk.

Gerry Burch Forestry Scholarship

Mr. W. Gerry Burch is turning 100 in August 2023. In celebration of his distinguished career and lifelong commitment to forestry, we invite you to make a donation to the Gerry Burch Forestry Scholarship. Forestry Student Emergency Fund

With the cost of living rising at an alarming rate, some of our students are having a hard time making ends meet. To respond to this pressing need, the Faculty of Forestry has established a fund to provide immediate financial assistance to undergraduate or graduate students facing unexpected financial hardships, including those grappling with issues of food and housing insecurity.

Wild & Immersive: outdoor development programs for children and youth

The lack of outdoor time for children and youth is growing at an alarming rate and is taking a toll on their health and well-being. But it doesn’t have to be that way. At Wild & Immersive, we believe that every child deserves the chance to connect with nature and experience the wonder and benefits firsthand. When children and youth experience nature, engagement follows naturally.

The Loon Lake Research and Education Centre, located within the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest in Maple Ridge was established in 1948 to accommodate UBC Forestry students on their annual field training. Help ensuring a strong future for the Centre.
